Dental Plans
Rising dental costs deter thousands of Americans from visiting a dentist everyday for regular treatment. A dental checkup in America can cost as much as $300 a visit, whereas repairs or cosmetic dentistry can cost $25,000. Dental plans offer less benefits compared to the benefits offered by ordinary medical insurance plans. With that in mind many dental offices offer financing options to lessen the burden of dental expenses.
There are options where a certain amount from an employee’s salary can be deducted and allocated to an account which has flexibility. This is done before the salary is assessed for taxes. There are two benefits for the employee, they receive tax advantages and get an amount to spend on emergency dental expenses. Before buying a dental insurance plan read the plan document carefully as each plan will have limits and certain treatments are excluded.
You have a number of choices for dental insurance. The first choice is the indemnity dental insurance plan where patients are allowed to choose their dentist. This plan has a fixed dentist fee but there is a limit on the annual amount that can be claimed.
There is also the self insurance plan, which is similar to the indemnity plan except the patient doesn’t get to choose the dentist of their choice. Then there is the closed panel dental insurance plan where patients can use only a fixed number of dentists and facilities.
An insured person must check with the dentist before they receive treatment to be certain they are aware how much the insurance company will pay. Most insurance plans differ on the amount they will repay and the amount they will pay yearly.
